Guthrie Cove Residence

Set into a south-facing waterfront slope near Guthrie Cove, this compact 2 bedroom home uses an articulated set of roof overhangs and variations in color and siding to animate a simple rectangular footprint. Entered at a midlevel landing via an ipe decked bridgeway, the house is simply organized by a series of 14 foot wide glassy waterfront rooms supported by 7 foot wide upland accessory spaces. Mediating the southfacing exposure, a large overhang provides shade and breaks down the scale of the two story façade with heavy timber brackets. Interior materials include madrona flooring, plywood and fir ceilings and built-in casework, fir columns salvaged from the site and plastic laminate over europly countertops.
